Notifiable diseases are highly contagious and have a very high rate of mortality which means that we must inform the outside world of them. It is down to the government whether a disease is notifiable and diseases can be added under the Animal Health Act of 1981. The two determining factors for a notifiable disease are the severity of the disease and the how controllable it is.
