The earliest fossil record of the giraffe is from 1.5 million years ago which was from Africa. Giraffes reside mostly in African savannahs, woodlands and open planes. Their natural environment where they thrive is very hot and in wide open spaces which allows them to see around them over a long distance. The amount of space one group of giraffes can inhabit can range between 8 and 50 square miles. Their habitat is shrinking due to the construction of new roads and clearings which is forcing them to return to the same feeding grounds which haven’t had enough time to regrow properly.
